Cratery 23 (pt. A) feat. Sipreano

22 12 2010

“The first of a 4-part Cratery featuring 2 of our favourite record nerds, Vancouver’s Sipreano and Toronto’s Jason Palma. On Session A, Sip goes one for one with Serious, Kaewonder and myself, sharing his love for all things Canadian, funky and undiscovered. Sip is not only responsible for breathing life into Light in the Attic’s “Jamaica to Toronto” compilation, but also the curator of the recently created voluntaryinnature.blogspot.com. He is also credited with creating the phrase “Rock Kokanee Flow”. Cratery 23: Session A featuring Sipreano. Enjoy.” – ARCEE

Cratery #21

21 09 2010

This month, the Cratery crew decided to embark on a journey to Montreal for the f*ck of it. Heat was copped, food was eaten and in less than 12 hours later we were back on the road. I can say from the bottom of my heart that I love that city. The city is great beyond measure and every time I go I have immense fun. This visit was no exception. Shouts to Arcee and Serious and the various vinyl vendors that made this trip both fun and worthwhile. We owe this edition of Cratery to y’all…

enjoy.

This month for Cratery, we’ve enlisted the help of none other than homie/digger/producer extraordinaire Frank Dukes.

For those unfamiliar with his stellar production work, get familiar. This is how it went down: we went 3-for-3 with a wide array of joints from psych to soul, west-Indian funk to Bollywood brainmelters.

You’ll notice that there’s no tracklisting for this Cratery. The information is classified. However, we did give you an eBay-esque description that may help you decode the secrets contained within our crates. Just kidding, the descriptions won’t help you at all.

Cratery 18: The Vangover

21 06 2010

“Both the hommie Kaewonder and I recently spent some time on the left coast.  This month’s Cratery represents the fruits of our visit. I love shopping for records in a different town. Especially when that town is Vancouver. I was fortunate enough to stumble across a copy of J.R. Bailey’s “Just me and you”, Nina Simone’s “Is it Finished” LP, Bad Medicine’s “Trespasser” 45 and a copy of Marlena Shaw’s Spice of Life LP to name a few. There are definitely some records in Vancouver. And no one knows that better than the big hommie Sipreano, record guru extraordinaire. Thank you sir. For your hospitality. And your record collection. And so, in the aftermath of 2 weeks spent binging on records, alcohol and herb, we present to you, Cratery 18: The Vangover. Enjoy. ” – ARCEE
